About a month ago, I noticed a discoloration on Mindy’s bottom eye lid. Then this past weekend our niece was visiting, and she mentioned that Mindy had a bump on her eye. I took another look, and it appeared that the discoloration had developed into some sort of sty or pimple on her eye.
We figured we would wait a few days to see if it would heal on its own. This morning it appeared to be a little redder and shinier, so I figured it was time to call the Vet. They recommended we come in as soon as possible, so I made the appointment.
The Vet tested her eye with some “glow in the dark” green dye to make sure that there were no scratches; thankfully, all appeared to be fine. She prescribed some anti-inflammatory/anti-biotic creme to be applied to her eye twice daily. Hopefully it will be healed within the week. We have a second appointment with the Doctor next Friday.

- January 17, 2006: Mindy’s sty is getting larger
- January 25, 2006: Mindy needed an eye operation. Doctor didn’t remove the growth since it was so large. They were afraid of permanent damage. They just took a biopsy.
- January 27, 2006: Mindy’s test results are negative, it’s an histiocytoma. That is good news. We’ll just have to wait to see if it disappears on its own.
- January 28, 2006: Mindy’s eye growth started to weep (bleed) this morning. Called Vet for appointment. Doctor cleaned up Mindy’s eye with some eye wash and gause. It is soo crusty with dried blood. She wants mindy to wear her cone/collar all the time just to make sure that she doesn’t touch her eye. She wants me to wash Mindy’s eye and also give her oral anti-biotics again (for 2 weeks) with the anti-biotic gel too. She will see Mindy again on Monday.
- January 30, 2006: Follow up on Mindy’s eye. Doctor said her eye looked good. We have been keeping the collar on all the time, and cleaning it with the eye wash and putting the anti-biotic gel on her eye. Also giving her the anti-biotics since Friday night.
- February 5, 2006: Mindy’s eye growth is getting smaller!
- February 10, 2006: The growth on her eye is still there, but smaller. Just one little ‘stitch’ is there; the other stitch just disappeared.
- February 25, 2006: Yay, the last little stitch that was hanging on for the longest time is finally gone! And her eye sty is much smaller. It is almost gone, but there is still the pinkish discoloration, don’t know if it will be there permanently.
- By mid-March, her eye was completely better. Everyone is amazed how well she healed, with absolutely no sign of damage
